Traditional Qajaq Experience

DKK 1595,- per Person

Tour open to everyone, even young children. In fact our traditional qajaq are designed to be very stable. For young children we place a flotation system that allow your kids to qajaq with his own qajaq, this make it impossible to capsize. We even have tuilik size for children (Tuilik is an Inuit watertight jacket, used when paddling a kayak. It is sealed at the face, at the wrists and around the cockpit coaming). See picture below.
Note that for people with size over 1,85m it will be hard nor impossible to fit in the qajaq.

The traditional qajaq experience is a must to do and the only place around Greenland where you can experience it, is here at Sisimiut Kayak Center.

Inside your qajaq get back in time paddling the surrounding of Sisimiut like the first Inuit peoples of Thule culture, whose descendants form the majority of the current population.
Depending of your level and your stability the guide will introduce you to different technics from forward paddling and basic of kayaking to ancestral hunting approach and harpoon trowing.

Did you know ?
Inuits designed and built their qajaq based on their own experience and that of the generations before them, passed on through oral tradition.

The word "qajaq" means "man's boat" or "hunter's boat", and qajaqs were a personal craft, each built by the man who used it with assistance from his wife, who sewed the skins and closely fitting his size for maximum manoeuvrability.
